Greetings!
It is my pleasure to serve the Bayshore Public School community. This year marks my 25th year as an educator and my 18th as an administrator. I have spent the last five years working as a central principal overseeing the revitalization of district literacy programming, school effectiveness, and the early years. I was very excited to return to a school, and equally excited that that school was Bayshore Public School.
My first real exposure to the Bayshore community was on Canada Day a few years back when I was distributing computers for an online reading program that we were developing. I was navigating the neighbourhood on foot with a box of computers and I must have looked a bit lost - I asked for assistance and met a few wonderful parents who helped me find houses. I thought, what a welcoming community! That spirit of welcoming has persisted in all of my interactions with this community since I arrived.
This school is a very special place. We are home to over 300 students from all over the world and there is strength in this diversity! Our school is rich with language and culture! We are also fortunate to have a very active parent/caregiver community who help to run school council, field trips and other volunteer activities.
As a principal, I feel so fortunate to work with such a strong group of educators who are committed to working together to create a learning environment that provides high quality education for all of our students. Here are a few examples:
We are investing in our MakerSpace to ensure that students have access to tools that will help them explore, design, and build as they learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
We are investing in additional gym equipment to improve the quality of play on the yard and in the gym.
We are actively engaged in school improvement initiatives focused on literacy and numeracy.
There are so many things to be proud of at Bayshore!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Take care,
Brent Smith
